Complaints Procedure

Our commitment

The Professional Association of Assistive Technologists CIC ("PAAT") wants to hear from you if something has gone wrong, whether that relates to how we have handled your personal data, your membership application or assessment, or any other aspect of your dealings with us. We take all complaints seriously and aim to resolve them fairly and promptly.

Data protection complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have collected, used, or protected your personal data, please follow this process:

  1. Contact us using the details below, explaining your concern as clearly as you can.
  2. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days of receiving it. This is a legal requirement under the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025. If you contact us by email, you will receive an automatic acknowledgement confirming we have received your complaint.
  3. We will investigate your complaint without undue delay and keep you informed of progress along the way.
  4. We aim to provide a full response within eight weeks.
  5. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.

General complaints

If your complaint is not related to data protection, for example about the membership application or assessment process or any other aspect of our service, please contact us using the same details below and let us know the nature of your concern.

We will acknowledge your complaint within five working days and aim to provide a full response within eight weeks.

If you are not satisfied with our initial response, you may ask for your complaint to be treated as an appeal. An appeal needs to relate to the application process not having been followed correctly, rather than disagreement with the outcome. Appeals are managed by the Chair of PAAT Directors, to reduce any conflict of interest and help ensure a fair decision. The appeal decision is final.

Who handles complaints

Complaints received by PAAT are handled by the Chair of the PAAT Directors. If your complaint is about that person, it will be passed to another director for handling.
